FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS REGARDING THE INDEPENDENCE CARD (iCard)
- Can I go to any primary care physician?
There are over 240 primary care physicians, carefully credentialed by the Jefferson Physician Group, that are participating with the iCard. These physicians are listed on the iCard website. You may use our convenient search tool to help locate a participating physician in your city.
- How do I use the Independence Card (iCard)?
Simply notify the physician's office when making an appointment, and then present your iCard at the time of payment to receive the discount.
- How were the fees determined?
Most fees are based upon the lowest accepted managed care rates. The iCard discounts generally represent the lowest fees possible for physicians to provide quality care. The primary care physician fees are listed on the web page.
- What if I need a specialist? Will I get a discount there?
We have a growing list of excellent specialist physicians who have also agreed to substantially reduce their fees for iCard members.
- Can I use the iCard for another member of my family?
Each person should have their own enrollment card. Apply online separately for each member of the family. There is no charge for the iCard.
- Can anyone use an iCard?
The iCard is intended for patients who are uninsured or who choose a physician out of their insurance network. If your physician has a contract with your insurance network, that physician is required to adhere to the insurance fee schedule and the iCard cannot be used.
- What if I have insurance, but want to continue to go to my doctor who doesn't participate in my insurance plan?
Using the iCard allows you to continue to receive affordable healthcare from your personal physician even if they are not contracted with your insurance.
- What's the catch?
No catch. No membership fee. No obligation. No one will bother you. Our goal is to enhance access to healthcare, preserve patient relationships regardless of insurance, and to protect independent healthcare choices.
